Alice Barrett, CASA's Managing Attorney for Immigration, joins the Office o f Human Rights to discuss standby guardianship, what it means, who is it for, and to outline CASA's work throughout the region.

Alice joined CASA as Supervising Immigration Attorney in 2024, bringing to the organization years of experience defending working class immigrant communities. Throughout her legal practice, Alice has represented cases before the U.S. Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) a the trial and appellate levels, and before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in both complex defensive and affirmative matters. She has also mentored and supported federal court litigation in civil and immigration cases. Prior to joining CASA, Alice was a Managing Attorney at the International Rescue Committee. She has also served as Managing Attorney at the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights (formerly CAIR Coalition) and as an Associate at the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. Alice holds a Bachelors Degree from Georgia State University, and a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland, Washington D.C., and New York.
